Veterinary Technician

Position Purpose
The Credentialed Veterinary Technician performs a critical role in providing high quality care for patients. Credentialed Technicians are key partners to the veterinarians, providing the appropriate support to ensure each client interaction and procedure is seamless and successful. Credentialed Technicians apply their professional skills in anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory testing, patient nursing, and client education. Deal breaker skills: phlebotomy, restraint, anesthesia monitoring, lab skills, and digital record keeping. Preferred skills: Fear Free handling
Hours of operation: Mon – Fri: 9 AM to 12:30 PM & 1:30 PM to 5 PM
Pay range: $19.50 – $22 DOE
CVT preferred.

Essential Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
- Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
- Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
- Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
- Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- State license to work as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician in state of desired employment
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
- Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
- Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Position Purpose
We are a family-oriented group that focuses strongly on mental health and homework life balance.
Reporting into the Practice Manager, the Client Service Representative (CSR), provides an exceptional experience to our clients during every interaction. In addition to continually engaging the client, the CSR performs practice administrative tasks such as record maintenance and appointment tracking. The CSR manages practice reception (visitor and telephone), maintenance of veterinary medical records, accounts maintenance, cash processing, data entry, word processing and mail services. The CSR applies practical knowledge of practice processes and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, and veterinary record requirements and terminology to ensure every patient is well-cared for and every client has an exceptional experience.
Please note: Communication and customer service skills are highly sought after. Client education and eagerness to learn desired.
Preferred proficiency in Cornerstone and veterinary PIMs software. Preferred 1 to 2 years experience

Essential Responsibilities
- Leads practice opening and closing procedures per Practice Manager instructions and practice procedures.
- Ensures all public areas are clean and presentable for patients; cleans and straightens areas including the front desk, reception area, waiting area, office, public bathroom(s) and exam rooms.
- Processes cash, checks, charge card payments and credit account payments.
- Schedules appointments for the clinic adhering to practice and Doctor preferences and ensure appropriate workflow.
- Assists in the updating of client/patient files, as needed.
- Prepares and sends client correspondence.
- Sends reminder notices to clients for periodic notifications; conducts re-calls to clients on a timely basis from a call back list.
- Performs a backup of the computer system on a regular basis, as directed.
- Performs and oversees the performance of posting daily business.
- Welcomes clients and patients to the practice with a warm and friendly demeanor and ensures an excellent experience during the practice visit.
- Answers incoming telephone calls applying proper telephone etiquette.
- Presents clients with medications, instructions, new client kits and any other take home items.

Heartland Veterinary Partners’ Externship Program works to provide 1st-4th year veterinary students with hands-on experience and mentorship to help have them ‘practice ready’ by their first day in practice.
Externships are typically 2 weeks long and Heartland will cover the cost of lodging if needed.
Length of externship is flexible & we can support your preceptorship documentation as well.

Veterinary technicians perform patient care duties in various animal care facilities, such as the offices of veterinarians. Must possess good critical thinking and problem solving skills, compassion, a positive attitude, follow-through and excellent communication and teamwork skills. Multi- tasking and accepting constructive criticism is essential. Punctuality is expected.
Job Duties of a Veterinary Technician
Veterinary technicians assist veterinarians in the care of animals. They may perform an initial evaluation of the animal’s condition, clean and wrap wounds, check vital statistics, collect samples and administer medication. They also perform basic lab work, including urinalysis and blood tests, and may assist with procedures such as teeth cleaning. They help during patient examinations and surgical procedures by restraining animals when necessary, stocking and cleaning examination, surgery and treatment rooms with supplies, sterilizing tools and ensuring that equipment is in working order. Communicate with pet owners and update patient files. It is expected that cleanliness in the office is maintained throughout the day.
Necessary Skills
Veterinary technicians must have excellent communication skills, so that they may interact with pet owners and coworkers. They must have an understanding of animal behavior and strong clinical skills in order to properly evaluate an animal’s condition and provide treatment. They must be detail-oriented and well-organized so that they may take medical histories, carry out instructions, document patient statistics and update records. It’s also essential that they enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large and small pets.
